The film Argo
is truly an amazing American underdog story. The sloppy and unorganized CIA
agent, Tony Mendez, really transforms into an awesome American hero that all
people should strive to be like. Mendez, played by Ben Affleck, is sent
to Iran in a last ditch elaborate scheme to rescue six American diplomats that
are being hunted down by the Iranian extremists. The elaborate plan was to
sneak the group of American diplomats out of the country by acting like a
Canadian film crew on the hunt for the perfect site for their new science
fiction movie Argo.
This fantastic film was accompanied with a
really solid cast that truly gave merit to the story’s integrity. Ben Affleck really
does a great job portraying Mendez in the film, and he really exemplifies the
amazing courage Mendez exhibited in this complete roller coaster of emotions
the movie brings out. This courage and sheer ambition is exactly what saved these
six Americans diplomats. This selfless act of bravery was needed during a time
when everything was crashing in against them.
One of my favorite aspects of this film is
the amazing cinematography that excellently portrayed the raw emotions the
movie captured. These emotions ranged from the sheer anger of the Iranian
citizens, the deep-rooted fear and anxiety displayed by the seven Americans
yearning for safety and even the flamboyant Hollywood scenes of the late
1970’s. This whole movie kept my attention during the entire film. I especially
love history and this movie really did a great job at giving justice to this
very unbelievable moment in humankind. The courage that Tony Mendez
portrayed during the whole film was wonderful to watch. Even when he was told
not to continue, he still kept going for the good of the people and the
country. Overall, I would say this is a must watch movie, and each and every
American should admire the courage that everyone involved in this process did.
The entire Iranian and American conflict at this time was extremely hostile and
a scary place to be during this time period. Luckily this is the outcome we
achieved, and we should be forever thankful that many parties came together to succeed
in this victory.
